5 On-Page SEO Tips and Tricks

March 19, 2025

It can be challenging to understand the world of SEO. Understanding SEO best practices and how to apply them can prove troublesome for many business owners. Many professional SEO companies have determined the best practices to improve a page’s rank in Google through rigorous testing. Our SEO specialists have decided to help by sharing five on-page SEO tips and tricks to help improve the rank of your pages.

1: Keyword Density:

The keywords are essential for your on-page SEO. If you have a page that doesn’t contain the keywords that users punch into their search bar, your page is less likely to rank highly in Google search engine results pages (SERPs). When you consider that most users click on results that come up on the first page of a SERP, you want to make sure that you rank as well as possible, and having the proper keyword density can help you get there. This means ensuring that the keywords you are trying to rank with and the variations of those keywords show up on a page multiple times. An example would be a plumbing company that wants to rank for “plumbers in Sacramento”; your page specific to plumbing should include those keywords multiple times. Though this might seem simple and obvious, this SEO practice is often missed, and overlooking it could hurt your ranking.

2: Keyword Placement:

Even though keyword density is essential, do not overlook your keyword placement on a page. Placing important keywords in HTML heading tags will help Google’s digital crawlers find you. These digital crawlers are often referred to as spiders. They help Google see what your page is all about, but they also help rapidly find out whether your page is relevant to what they are searching for. User’s eyes tend to be drawn towards larger text in headings on a page, and if they see keywords that they searched for or a variation of their search, they will be more likely to stay on the page. Keeping them on your page will be beneficial instead of returning to the search results to look at other service providers in your area.

3: Alt-Tagging Images:

When visiting a website, you can quickly tell what all the images are on a page. In seconds, users will see that a photo on the screen is a car, an animal, etc. Google’s crawlers cannot see these images like us, though, so you must alt-tag all of your pictures. If your image doesn’t have an alt tag, the spiders cannot determine how relevant it is to a user’s search and may rank your page lower. Adding appropriate alt tags that feature keywords you wish to rank for will help boost your rank. Alt tags also benefit the visually impaired who use a screen reader to navigate a web page. The screen reader will read the alt tag so that even if the user cannot see the image, they will receive a description of what the content contains.

4: Internal Links:

Help keep users on your website by including internal links. Most blogs you have recently read, including this one, have internal links to other blog posts or portions of the leading site. Including internal links in your content can keep users on your site longer as they click through related posts or services, and it also helps Google spiders crawl, which will help your rankings. Spiders from Google always find new pages by following link paths and storing new URLs in a search index. URLs stored inside the index can be displayed when a user searches for something. Internal links make it easier for your pages to be displayed in SERPs.

5: Enrich User Experience:

It can be easy to get caught up in ensuring all your keywords are there and your HTML is formatted correctly. Though these are important, we never want to forget that your users should still be satisfied when they land on your page. Even with all the proper steps to rank on Google, a poorly designed or complex-to-read site will drive customers away. Fortunately, there are a few easy steps that you can take to make sure that the readability and overall experience of your page are the best that it can be.

  • Well-Defined Headings – We suggest breaking up your page into small chunks under a relevant heading. This simple step can go a long way in making your page easier to read. Users will not sit around and read through large blocks of text on your page, so offer them what they are looking for quickly.
  • Relevant Media Content – Some images or videos about your business can keep users interested and improve their overall experience.
  • Bold or Italicized Text – emphasizing keywords using bold or italics on HTML tags can quickly draw the user’s eyes to the essential information on your page and show users that you have what they have been searching for.
  • Bullet Lists – Lists such as this one are a proven and effective way to display information as it is easier for the user’s eyes to scan rather than one long paragraph.
